Sophisticated Palladian Style.

description

This house was a reinterpretation of Palladian architecture.

Although classical architectural styles may instruct a project, the final design will reflect the client’s unique tastes and needs. In this case, it was important to the charismatic owner that the house function well for entertaining.

External steps lead up to an exterior doorway that suggests a temple portico, flanked by Corinthian columns and pilasters. Large windows balance the dramatic doorway. The façade is symmetrical, as is the side of this corner-lot house. Its form follows classical mathematical ratios.

Once inside, guests pass under a cannon ceiling with pilasters. The entryway opens into a virtual piano nobile (noble level) for the reception area, followed by a gentle descent into the dining area, which is once again at ground level. The host may descend from the second-floor rooms via a swirling marble staircase with a wrought iron balustrade, illuminated by a skylight with antique light fixture.

The unique language of materials throughout this home includes marble, stone, and mahogany.
